Gordie Schaeffler was named head coach of Oakland University Hockey on March 12th, 2013. Schaeffler enters his ninth season with the Golden Grizzles and first as head coach. He spent the previous nine seasons working with the Oakland defense. Gordie coordinates all off ice strength and conditioning, works with OU Hockey video editing and assists in all aspects of the program.
Prior to coming to OU, Gordie served as an Associate Coach in 2004-2005 for Ferris State’s ACHA D-II team. Before starting his coaching career Schaeffler played at Ferris State University for the ACHA D-II team from 1999 to 2004 where he had been an assistant captain since his sophomore year. Schaeffler helped the Bulldogs to a third place finish in the 2000-2001 ACHA D-II National Tournament. In his final year coaching at FSU, he led the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish at the 2004 GMHL Play-offs against the Golden Grizzlies.
Schaeffler Played in the first game in Oakland University hockey history as a freshmen playing for Ferris State University’s ACHA team.
Personal: Gordie (34) graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor degree in Business and a major in Public Relations in 2004. He is the Head Hockey Instructor at Total Performance Sports Training Center in Wixom, Michigan. Gordie resides in Royal Oak, MI.
