Coach Brendan Desjardins joins the 2012-13 coaching staff for his first season as the team’s goaltending coach following a standout collegiate playing career for the Razorbacks. His hockey career spanned nineteen years, beginning in Ohio when he was four-years-old. Brendan moved to Dallas, TX, at the age of nine and played at different times for the Dallas Junior Hockey Association, Dallas Storm, and Texas Attack from squirts through Midget Major AAA. He thereafter played a short time in the North American Hockey League with various teams including the Alexandria Blizzard, Wichita Falls Wildcats, and Texas Tornadoes.
Brendan transferred to the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2009 following the completion of his sophomore year at the University of Texas at Dallas. He backstopped the team to a 25-8-0 record during the 2009-10 season, a season that included a conference title, South Regional championship, and a trip to Nationals–all program firsts. He was voted by his teammates as Assistant Captain in 2010-11 when the Razorbacks compiled a 27-7-1 overall record, a second consecutive trip to the South Regional, and a second consecutive conference title. Brendan was selected by the Coaching Staff as Captain for the 2011-12 season and helped guide the team to an overall 22-6-0 season record.
During his standout three-year collegiate career, among other highlights, Brendan made eight consecutive saves during an eight-round shootout victory over Grand Valley State University in October of 2011. He also made forty-four stops in an overtime upset victory against then-ranked Missouri State University (DII) in February of 2009. Finally, he posted an impressive 8-1 record in three seasons against arch-rival Alabama. He was voted to the All-SECHC third team in 2009-10 and the All-SECHC first team for both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
Brendan’s goaltending accomplishments have also been recognized nationally; he received the first team ACHA all-region honor in 2010-11 and third team ACHA all-region honors in 2011-12. He capped off his collegiate career by joining six other of his teammates in representing the SECHC at the ACHA DIII All-Star challenge in Philadelphia, PA, in April of this year.
Brendan graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelors of Science in Business (Marketing Management major, Economics minor) in 2011 and recently received his Masters of Science in Operations Management with a Business focus in 2012. He currently works for J.B. Hunt Transport in the RISE management program as a Carrier Sales Coordinator.
