Team Staff Profile - Bob Smith

Bob grew up in New York and Colorado. He attended the City University of New York for his BA in History and New York University for his MBA in Finance. Bob played hockey at both the club and adult league level for many years. He began his coaching career in the youth leagues working with several age groups in the central Texas area. Bob is a strong proponent of hockey coach education and in 2003 he earned his Master Coach-Level 5 Certification from USA Hockey, the highest certification provided by the organization.
In 2000 Bob helped to organize and establish the University of Texas Hockey team in Austin. As their Head Coach he successfully developed a nationally recognized program within the ACHA, organized regional Showcase collegiate hockey tournaments, team charity events and established the popular annual “Pride of Texas Cup” challenge match between Texas and Texas A&M. During his eleven years of coaching at Texas he realized several winning seasons, a visit to the ACHA Div. III National Championships in 2004-05 and, over the years, successfully assisted many former players with their advancement to graduate and professional education programs in Medicine, Law, Engineering and Business.
Bob is currently President and Chief Investment Officer of Sage Advisory Services, the largest independent registered investment management advisory firm in Central Texas which he founded in 1996. He has successfully raised four children with his wife Prof. Gail E. Smith and they reside in the Austin area.
