West Bloomfield, MI - The University of Illinois takes over the top spot in Ranking #3 of the 2006-07 season, getting 23 of a possible 38 first-place votes. The Fighting Illini are now a perfect 10-0-0 on the season. Illinois last held the #1 position on December 16, 2005. Former #1 Rhode Island slipped to #2 after suffering its first loss of the season at Delaware. The Rams still managed to accrue 13 first-place votes. Oklahoma (11-0-0), the only other remaining undefeated team besides Illinois, received 1 first-place vote and moved up 3 spots to #4. Kent State and Western Michigan made the biggest noise in the poll. Kent State moved up 5 spots to come in at #15, while Western Michigan went from being unranked to holding down the #16 spot.
The fourth ranking of the regular season will be released on Friday, November 17.
This years ACHA Division 1 National Championships will be hosted by Kent State University and take place February 28-March 4, 2007 at the Ice Zone in Youngstown, OH. Sixteen teams will qualify for the tournament.
