Lindenwood University defeated the University of Illinois 4-1 to win the 2009 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championship.
First Period
Lindenwood killed two power plays by Illinois. Lindenwood outshoots Illinois 12 -3 in the first period. Mike Burda makes plenty of big saves, several with his facemask.
#22 Johnny Liang of Illinois had the best chance of the period, going in alone on #30 Robi Cavallari. He dekes to his right, and has an empty net, but the puck slides off his stick. Seconds later, #23 Brad Hoelzer [ILL] rings one off the crossbar.
Second Period
#9 Carson Hamill scored 2 even-strength goals, and #26 Tim Gardner got the other to put Lindenwood up 3-1 after two periods.
#19 Jordan Pringle tied the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal.
Lindenwood outshot Illinois 12-5 in the 2nd period, 24-8 for the game so far.
