ILLINOIS #1 FOR 17TH CONSECUTIVE RANKINGUNION LAKE, MI - The defending ACHA Men's Division 1 National Champions, the University of Illinois, received 24 of a possible 36 votes to top the polls in Ranking #7. #2 Lindenwood University closed the voting gap to a mere 12 points, and garnered the other 12 first-place votes. Illinois has now been ranked #1 for 17 consecutive polls.
Robert Morris (PA) was the big gainer in the polls, moving up 3 spots to #9. Rhode Island and Robert Morris (IL) each moved up 2 spots, to #7 and #15 respectively. Canton makes it debut in the polls, in its inaugural ACHA season, sliding in to the #25 spot.
The eighth ranking of the regular season will be released on Friday, January 30.
The 2009 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships will be hosted by John Carroll University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and will take place March 14-18, 2009 at the Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, OH. Sixteen teams will qualify for the tournament.
