Eric Sunness Takes over as Head Coach at Colorado State2014-03-30

Eric Sunness is a native of Binghamton, New York. He played hockey through Midgets and high school, and has had a life-long passion for the game. He previously served as Head Coach of the CSU Hockey Team in 2008-2009, helping the team to a fourth place finish nationally, losing to National Champions, Davenport University in the semi finals. In 2009, Sunness was named Coach of the Year by Colorado State University, and received the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s Coach of the Year award for the Western Region. Coach Sunness is a USA Hockey Level IV Coach, and has coached at every level from mites through college. He is entering his 27th season as an ice hockey coach, seventeen of which have been with the Northern Colorado Youth Hockey program. He has coached high school hockey for Fossil Ridge and Rocky Mountain. He has served for several years as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Northern Colorado Youth Hockey and President of the Board of Directors of Fort Collins Youth Lacrosse. Coach Sunness has Bachelors degrees in Marketing Management and Professional Sport Management, and has previously worked for the New Jersey Nets basketball team as Assistant to the Public Relations Director, and the Centre for International Sports Management. He obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, in Lansing Michigan, and has been practicing criminal defense and family law in Fort Collins since 1993. Coach Sunness and his wife, Elizabeth, have three grown children.
