2014-01-15

ARIZONA STATE WINNING STREAK ENDS BUT SUN DEVILS ARE STILL #1

UNION LAKE, MIArizona State University sustained its first loss of the season at home against the University of Oklahoma, but is still on top of the polls in the 2013-2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 Ranking #15.  Despite the loss, the Sun Devils are still an impressive 25-1-0 on the season.  Robert Morris Illinois continued to hold strong in the #2 spot after sweeping a pair of tight games with Mercyhurst, while the Sooners win boosted Oklahoma up into the #3 spot.  Liberty held at #4 while Minot State moves back into the top 5.
.
Big winners in the computer ranking this week were:  #3 Oklahoma (up 2 spots), #8 Delaware (up 2 spots), #13 Arizona (up 3 spots), #14 Lindenwood (up 3 spots), and #19 Buffalo (up 2 spots).
.
Here is how the ranking is going to work using the computers:  The ACHA will use the two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings.  The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking.  Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking A until the Top 25 teams are listed.
.
The computer ranking will for the first time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following seven autobids:
