UNION LAKE, MI – For the fifth consecutive week, the Arizona State University Sun Devils are the #1 ranked team in the country, receiving 45 out of 46 first-places votes to claim the top spot in the 2012-2013 ACHA Men's Division 1 Ranking #10. The Sun Devils suffered their first loss of the season against former ACHA Men’s Division 1 powerhouse and first-year NCAA Division 1 team Penn State University over the weekend but still easily outdistanced #2 Adrian College, which received the other first-place vote. The Sun Devils were torched 8-3 on Friday night before regrouping and gutting out a 3-1 win on Saturday over the Nittany Lions in State College, PA.

The Bulldogs held down the #2 spot after sweeping Kent State in a home-and-home series while Robert Morris Illinois had the weekend off and remained in the #3 spot. #4 Minot State and #5 Ohio battled down at Bird Arena in Athens, OH, with each team coming away with a win. The Bobcats eked out a 6-5 win on Friday while the Beavers ran roughshod on Saturday night winning 7-1, allowing them to flip-flop spots in the polls this week.

This week’s big mover-and-shakers were #6 Oklahoma and #10 Liberty as each team moved up 2 spots this week. Oklahoma went on the road to Champaign, IL and swept Illinois on the Big Pond in impressive fashion, winning 4-1 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday. Meanwhile, Liberty took a trip to Michigan and won 2 out of 3 games against higher ranked opponents. The Flames beat Davenport 5-3 on Thursday before splitting a pair of games with Oakland, winning 5-1 on Friday and losing 7-3 on Saturday, ending the Golden Grizzlies 0-6-1 slide. The Flames round out this week’s top 10, joining #6 Oklahoma, #7 Davenport, #8 Illinois, and #9 Lindenwood.

Elsewhere in other Top 25 matchups: Central Oklahoma and Iowa State split a pair of games in Ames, IA, with the Bronchos winning in a 5-round shootout on Friday while the Cyclones got the 3-2 regulation win on Saturday; Rutgers and Rhode Island split a pair of games in New Jersey with the Rams winning 4-3 in overtime on Friday while the Scarlet Knights responded on Saturday with a 4-2 win; Stony Brook went on the road and swept West Chester winning 6-2 and 5-2; and Delaware pounded out a pair of home wins over Syracuse winning 6-1 and 7-0.

The 2013 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships will be hosted March 1-6 by Robert Morris University Illinois at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL. This will be the second year of the 20-team format.
