WD1 2011 Coach of the Year - Nick Carpenito

2011-04-01

The 2011 American Collegiate Hockey Association [ACHA] Women's Division 1 Coach-of-the-Year Award, presented by Harrow Sports, goes to Nick Carpenito of Northeastern University.

This is the second ACHA Coach-of-the-Year Award for Nick in the last three seasons, having also won the ACHA Women's Division 2 Coach-of-the-Year Award in 2009.

Nick will be presented his ACHA Women's Division 1 Coach-of-the-Year Award at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year Celebration on Friday, April 29, 2011, at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Naples, FL.

In Northeastern University’s first season as a member of ACHA Women’s Division 1, Nick led the Huskies to a 19-1-4 record as well as a Regular Season and Playoff Championship as members of the Eastern Collegiate Women’s Hockey League (ECWHL). The Huskies were also the only team in the nation to earn at least a point in every regular season game within ACHA Women’s Division 1 play. They finished the regular season in a third place tie in the final regular-season ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Ranking, eventually earning a fourth seed in the ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Tournament. The team rolled into the National Championship game before succumbing to Michigan State University and finished with the ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Runners-Up Trophy.

Carpenito has been the Head Coach of the Northeastern Women’s Team for three years, the first two years being played in ACHA Women’s Division 2. Nick’s team was the 2010 ACHA Women’s Division 2 National Champions and his overall record at Northeastern stands at 62-8-6.

Nick started his hockey career at a very young age. His first time skating was just before his second birthday. He was a two-time Hockey Night in Boston All-Star and split his high school career between Acton Boxborough Regional High School and Lawrence Academy, also earning varsity letters in soccer and lacrosse. In his senior year he was a league all-star at Acton Boxborough, helping his team to their first league title in eight years.

He is a resident of Acton, Massachusetts and is currently in his final year as an undergraduate student at Northeastern. In addition to coaching the Women’s ACHA Team, he is also a member of the Northeastern ACHA Men’s Team.
