Steve Hurtubise has been selected to be the new head coach of Canisius for their first season as an ACHA M1 team and their first year in the ECHL
Hurtubise brings with him over twenty-six years of coaching experience in all ages of travel and high school hockey in New York State; By focusing on forming good habits, skating dynamics and skill development, he has coached teams that have gone on to win state championships.
Hurtubise looks to create an atmosphere of accountability, professionalism and enthusiasm that will allow the Canisius hockey program to advance. “The Golden Griffins will sneak up on a lot of teams early in the year. We are young but highly skilled. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in Canisius club hockey.”
His new Canisius staff includes two coaches from the ranks of the Tonawanda Lightning Hockey Association - Chris Baumgardner & Ken Randall as well as former defensive stand-out from Cal State Long Beach 49ers and 2004 & 2005 National Champion Morrisville State Mustangs, Jason Elliott.
Coach Hurtubise was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University where he was a four-year starting goalie. Outside of hockey, Hurtubise focuses on commercial insurance risk management with the Bailey, Haskell & LaLonde Agency.
