Vince O’Mara (St. Louis, MO) has been chosen as an Assistant Coach for the 2011 United States University Women’s Select Team, serving under Head Coach Mo Stroemel from Penn State University. The United States University Women’s Select Team will compete at the Winter World University Games, to be held January 27-February 6, 2011 in Erzurum, Turkey. This will be the inaugural appearance for the United States Women’s Team at the Winter World University Games.
The United States University Women’s Select Team is comprised of players from collegiate ice hockey teams affiliated with the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The players will be selected after an identification camp August 6-8 at Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids, MI. The second Assistant Coach for the team will also be selected after the identification camp.
Vince, a two-time ACHA Women’s Division 1 Coach-of-the-Year Award Winner (2006, 2009), will be entering his eighth season as Head Coach of the Lindenwood University Lady Lions. During his career at the helm of the program, he has amassed a record of 208-23-9. To go along with all of the wins, O’Mara’s teams have captured four ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Championships (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010) and three Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) League Championships (2008, 2009, 2010). Vince has coached numerous ACHA Women’s Division 1 All-Americans, ACHA Women’s Division 1 Academic All-Americans, and three ACHA Women’s Division 1 Player-of-the-Year Award winners.
Vince is entering his 15th year coaching women’s hockey. Prior to joining the Lindenwood University coaching staff, O'Mara was the Head Coach for the St. Louis Force Select 16-and-Over women’s team. He had a combined record there of 135-25-12. That team won four WCHL League Championships, five Missouri State titles, four Central Regional Championships, and had four National Championship appearances.
Vince has been a part of USA Hockey as a player and/or a coach for over 35 years now. He has worked at a number of hockey camps and schools for both men and women over the past several years, and also volunteers his time to speak at different clinics and educational seminars for girls hockey. O’Mara currently sits on numerous boards and committees for the ACHA and CCWHA.
Vince lives in St. Louis, Mo. with his wife, Jennifer and their daughter, Alyssa.
