SEAN WEAVER, UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

The 2010 American Collegiate Hockey Association [ACHA] Men's Division 3 Greg Stathis Coach-of-the-Year Award, presented by Harrow Sports, goes to Sean Weaver of the University of Central Florida, as selected by the ACHA Men’s Division 3 Awards Committee, which includes Regional Ranking Coordinators and former winners of the Coach-of-the-Year.

 

Sean will be presented his ACHA Men's Division 3 Greg Stathis Coach-of-the-Year Award at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year Celebration on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Naples, FL.

 

The 2009-2010 season was full of highlights for the University of Central Florida and Sean Weaver, including: 2010 ACHA Men's Division 3 National Championships Semi-Finalists, losing to eventual National Champions Saginaw Valley State University; the #2 seed in the South Region and a bye to the ACHA Men's Division 3 National Championships; and recording the second-most wins in a season in school history (26). 

 

Sean Weaver began playing hockey at the age of four in Syracuse, NY.  He played youth hockey up thru high school age.  There, he played Division 1 high school hockey for the Baldwinsville Bees.  Sean went on to play hockey for Broome Community College for 2 seasons, where he received 2 consecutive years of 1st Team All Region.  Sean then transferred to Iowa State University where he played for 3 years, and received 2 successive years of 3rd Team All American.

 

Sean Weaver began coaching at the University of Central Florida in 2000.  Sean has taken his collegiate playing experience to his Florida team.  Sean works hard each season to maximize each of his player’s talents.  His efforts have transformed this team over the past 10 years to one of Division 3’s most consistent teams.  Weaver has led his team to 5 consecutive National Championship appearances, and placed 3rd in the 2007/2008 season.  His passion and dedication for this team motivates each player the opportunity to reach their full potential and strive for greatness.  Building upon the talents that already exist in his players, Weaver gears his team towards being a cohesive family unit.
